Where we stand
The Ireland-Information Group seeks to spread information on the Irish freedom struggle against the British occupation, against the repression of the Irish people. The Irish people have a long tradition of struggle against British presence in Ireland. Through history this struggle has taken many forms. The Ireland- Information Group does not take a stand on the different shapes of struggle, but we give our support and solidarity to those groups who has as its aspirations to end British occupation, create a free Ireland and to establish an Irish Republic.
From Wolfe Tone to Padraig Pearse and the Easter Rising to the Republican Movement of our times, the struggle against British occupation has always been closely knit to Th struggle against social injustices. The Irish Republic ?treats its children equal? as Pearse put it. James Connolly?s word on how pointless it would be to change the flag without changing the social conditions has proven correct in view of the Free State that was the result of the peace agreement in 1921. The Republican Movement is therefor the only opposition to the power structures in the North, as well as in the South. The struggle for the Republic is a struggle for a just and equal society as formulated in the Easter Proclamation and the Democratic Program.
The Ireland-Information Group spreads information on Ireland and the struggle for freedom, both internal as well as to an external audience. We try to keep in contact with, and to give support to, the republican prisoners. We also present material and views from the different Republican groups in Ireland to the Swedish audience.
