[080513] EirigiEirigi, a socialist-republican group that was formed in Ireland just two years ago by half a dozen people who left Sinn Fein, now numbers several hundred members. They held their second ard fheis (national conference) at the weekend. At it, former IRA POW Rab Jackson of Belfast was elected general-secretary and Brian Leeson, one of the key founders, was re-elected as national chairperson. Below is Jackson's speech to the ard fheis:

To be a republican today with a belief in ending British rule in the six counties and restoring national sovereignty and re-unification is a crime in the eyes of the 26 county administration. To campaign politically in pursuit of these aims is so great a crime that you could find yourself effectively interned and spending a considerable number of years in prison as a result.
